Hmmm... I don't really have writer's block. I do have a little arthritis though.

Pretending to be someone I am not. I guess actors feel the same way. In "Brooklyn Valentine" I got to be inside the head of a man very unlike myself. I had to stretch to make him do/say things I would never do. That's the fun part! "Write what you know" never made much sense to me. If I already know it, there are no suprises and nothing to learn.

Well, if you are writing, then you are a "writer," period. There is no such thing as "aspiring." Either you are writing or you are not. If you aspire to be published, that's different. My advice there is not to get your hopes up. Write what you love. The "market" is fickle and volatile. No one (including publishers) knows what will be successful next.

I wanted to do a rom-com that was a cross between Love Story and Seinfeld. Brooklyn was the natural setting as I grew up there and everyone I know/knew has some connection to it. The structure (each chapter a place in Bklyn) was a natural . I wanted the high point in Terry and Sal's relationship to be at the highest point in the NYC subway system (Smith/9th St). For me, growing the relationship through dialogue was the fun part.
