I was recently watching an interview with Douglas Coupland where he talks about this and I couldn't help but agree with him. As he suggests, the story seems to find you. I believe he makes notes when he gets inspired and keeps them in a jar. To me that seems like too much work...too much like a distance learning project. I like to think that when I sit down to write I will be in just the right place, at just the right time, and if I sit still and quiet, be as much as I can in the moment, the story will find me.

About 8 years ago it struck me. I said to my husband, "Wouldn't it be an interesting premise for a book if someone (or something) was able to exploit your sleep hours. The one thing that still remains ours/uninterrupted (for the most part)". I didn't know it at the time but the book was hanging in the balance as I waited for his reply. Serendipitously he loved the idea and the premise for Percivious Insomnia was conceived.
