Goodreads asked J.J. Cook:

How do you get inspired to write?

J.J. Cook I was recently watching an interview with Douglas Coupland where he talks about this and I couldn't help but agree with him. As he suggests, the story seems to find you. I believe he makes notes when he gets inspired and keeps them in a jar. To me that seems like too much work...too much like a distance learning project. I like to think that when I sit down to write I will be in just the right place, at just the right time, and if I sit still and quiet, be as much as I can in the moment, the story will find me.
