Strangely, this hasn't happened much to me. It's possible I didn't recognize it as such. When I'm struggling to get my writing all together and it doesn't happen in my time frame, maybe that's writer's block. I set my work aside, do something very different, like bake bread, take the dog outside or call a friend. Then when I come back to work, I'm refreshed and often my writing is refreshed as well. I don't like to force writing, even on deadline. I let the deadline, or struggle, guide me to the finish.

I can write anywhere! I don't necessarily need a computer either. I'm from the old school of pen and paper so as long as I have an idea and something to write with and on, I'm good to go. But do give me a computer for the long run. The next best thing is when I'm done writing something and while I read it I get a tingle in the base of my skull - then I know it's right. Sounds nutty, right? It's what works for me. And it's usually after editing my work more times than I can remember. I like this personal struggle to write what I want to say and in the manner I had hoped to say it.

Read, read and read some more. When an idea comes to you, begin writing and write from the heart. I encourage new writers to focus on good writing and honing in your skill - finding your voice - before worrying about whether you will ever be published. Most of all, don't fear editing because it always improves your work.

I'm toying with the idea for a children's book about a duck who is a child's assistive hearing duck - wakes her, warns her. We'll see where it goes - it's one of my ideas that is stirring.

My writing process starts with an idea and that idea becomes my inspiration. It might be from something I read or experience, something someone says or does but life is my initial inspiration and I can't stop from writing about these things! Sometimes they become one of my monthly newspaper columns and other times ideas I store to use later. But God truly sends me inspirations - I have to keep my eyes, ears and heart open.

I started thinking about all the times I felt I had missed the mark on doing what I thought God had asked me to do, aka Fudges, or wanted me to do. Talking with others, I found I wasn't alone. I put out the call for stories about our Nudges and Fudges and was inspired but what I read. Along with my stories, there are 15 contributors. We all share the love of God and want to listen better.
