Mary Shaw I would like to read We Contain Multitudes by Sarah Henstra. Sound a bit like "Dance on my Grave" which I really liked.
Mary Shaw It has been in my heart for 10 years - someone once said when you write you are leaving your footsteps in the sand. That is what I am trying to do. I feel bias and prejudice are learned early or inherited and sometimes it takes a lifetime or maybe never to unlearn. I have spent 40 years unlearning. I look on my Unkie Herb series as confirmatory evidence of unlearning. So I think, teach children early and give them correct information and that is what I tried to do with Basil's Unkie Herb. Many children may be unaware that in 29 of the approx. 200 soverign states marriage equality exists. So a little boy who says he will marry his best friend Austin is ridiculed and questioned by his peers despite the fact that he was ring bearer at his two aunties wedding. Ignorance leads to meaness and confusion. So for that little boy I am trying to ensure noone has to unlearn something as simple as "here you get to marry whom you love". By writing funny anetdotes about Unkie Herb I am hoping everyone will love him and cheer when he introduces Ricardo.
