Rupert Smithson I don't deal with it, because I've yet to experience it. What I have experienced, however, for many decades is reader's block. Speculative fiction, i.e. science fiction and fantasy, was a particular joy when I was a child, but as is the case for many when grown up, fossilization set in and it was discarded as childish. How wrong I was! Human beings are storytellers from start to finish. Speculative fiction has the most scope for exploring human nature and the universe, more than non-fiction, e.g. philosophy, in my opinion.
Rupert Smithson Understanding yourself, thus the world, although the more one learns the more it's clear how much more there is to learn. That sounds daunting, but the fact is that in any adventure the journey is more important than the goal. The best metaphor for that I can think of is music, especially if one is a musician, who acquires deep knowledge of the paradox of time and eternity.
Rupert Smithson Writing is rewriting. Also, bear in mind that it doesn't get easier, but the inner growth in the meantime is what it's all about.
Rupert Smithson The first five books of The Stars Hereafter Chronicles series are complete. Book six is two-thirds finished, but the entire collection will be nine books covering the entire lifespan of the protagonist, potentially 400 years if he survives his adventures and misadventures.
Rupert Smithson Writing has always come naturally as a better way of being articulate on any topic than speaking, although I could also do that when working as a college instructor, but that skill came with practise.
Rupert Smithson The idea came to me while following Stephen King's idea I heard him explain in a YouTube video, i.e. that after he created a few characters and set them in a situation he "watched what they did" and wrote it down.
