How do you deal with writer’s block?
Bryn Smith I avoid a lot of writer's block because I spend so much time plotting my books out. I have a 14-column spreadsheet that deals with everything. It means when I sit down to write, all the inspiration is there and I just have to flesh it out into a full scene.

What books are on your summer reading list this year?
Bryn Smith I'm reading a lot of non-fiction science about artificial intelligence and cybernetics as research for my next book. AI Superpowers by Kai-Fu Lee and How to Build a Mind by Igor Aleksander.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Bryn Smith Treat writing like a skill to be perfected. Read books that are about writing, characters, plot and the publishing industry. It takes your writing to the next level.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Bryn Smith I wrote a similar short story for a university fiction prize. It was also set in a futuristic megacity and featured the iconic plasma pistols. I won and decided to try and flesh it out into a full novel. Five years later and its here.
