Nathaniel Hardman I'm working on a book now that was inspired by a stray thought I had while reading the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson: sin spren. What if sins attracted, immediately, a visible manifestation of their wrongness. How would people react/adapt? How would that affect your culture? What would it be like being a teenager in such a place? I feel like the idea has led me in really interesting directions, and I'm excited to finish this new book and get it out there so we can all discuss.
Nathaniel Hardman You've already started! I really did think Jinxed was fun. I've heard two main opinions from writers on the most important thing you need to do to start writing:
1. Write a lot. Like daily
2. Read a lot. Like daily
For you, I would recommend reading lots, and then whatever you have to write in school, try to make it fun. I remember in 6th grade, we had spelling words every week, and we had to use each word in a sentence. I took that as a challenge to write the most outrageous sentences I could. (e.g.: "faucet: Out of the faucet spilled the monster - a writhing glob of acid-green slime and muscle that emitted an odor of burnt rubber"). Read lots, and whatever you write, make it fun. Good luck! I'll be excited to read your next story!
