J.E. Staab Hi - thanks for the question! I love stories that pit innocence against evil - it doesn't matter the genre. The hero of the series is young and a bit naive, despite his brilliance, and up against powerful evil, almost insurmountable odds. I wanted Jordan to have some weaknesses, a little brashness, and definitely inexperience. On the surface, that innocence seems a liability that is offset by his sharp mind and great street sense - but ultimately, it could also be one of his greatest strengths.
J.E. Staab I love to read. Settling down with a good book allows a person to relax, to set the world aside. To me, writing is just like that, only a little more intense. I love getting involved with characters, seeing them in my mind, thinking about what they will do next. Writing is an escape, stimulation, a relaxation all in one.
J.E. Staab Sit down at the keyboard and start typing. Even if you don't like what comes out, or it's sparse at first, you'll get something down, and that will spur more thoughts. Before you know it, you'll be rolling again. You can always go back and edit later.
J.E. Staab I'll admit, it's nervewracking to put a book out there; it's like a piece of yourself, but it is so rewarding. Have faith in yourself and your work!
J.E. Staab I'm currently working on the remaining books in the series. Book two, Downtown Dance, and book three, Rampage in the Hills are written, and I'm in the process of tweaking and reviewing. Book four, which will be titled Bridge Game, is in progress.
In book two, Jordan continues to work his way inside Carter's organization, and he and the PDI are pulled into the world of the theater and Pittsburgh society in an attempt to stop a killer.
J.E. Staab I've always been fascinated by stories involving innocence vs. overwhelming evil. My preferred reads are crime novels, and I thought that the creation of a young, inexperienced protagonist against a powerful crime lord in a crime novel setting would make a compelling series.
