Two reasons! I'm fascinated by Carthage and its wars with Rome. Few novelists have tackled Hannibal's campaigns in Italy that almost brought Rome to her knees. I was also intrigued by the idea that European history, perhaps even world history, would have been so different if Rome had been defeated.
