There are continuously people trying to make others conform to a certain set of standards. What they consider appropriate for how a girl or boy should act. When my artistic son was bullied for wearing nail polish, this story came together. Realistically, people are way more gender fluid, in the past it has just been a bit more hidden. I'm hoping that kid's see this book and know they are perfect just as they are, without bending to conform.

I read multiple times that a helpful thing to do is day-to-day journaling. For whatever reason, I have a difficult time sticking with that. I do better when an idea comes to mind and I scribble it down ferociously before I forget. Then I sit and concoct a story that is posted pretty sporadically on my blog, but it suffices and works well for me.
Not everything that you write is going to be mind-blowing. I have been writing since I was a kid and it has been great practice. But there is often frustration involved when a story doesn't quite come together and you just have to keep working at it. So determination and perseverance are key qualities.

Do other creative endeavors, card making, drawing/painting, paper crafts. Or work on household remodeling projects. We have a 100+ year old house, so there is plenty. It gives me time to ruminate.
