Pete Davies I haven't had any blockages as such, however, sometimes it takes me a while to work through elements of the story-line when my brain is racing away. I find I just have to work through it a few times and then go through the unintended consequences if I do 'x' or 'y'.
Occasionally this has meant an about turn, which once I can see, is then OK, but until I 'see it', it can be a bit frustrating.
Pete Davies I've been really surprised at how much I enjoyed bringing the story to life. I've also enjoyed seeing my characters grow and I suppose most of all, I get to tell stories that give people enjoyment.
Pete Davies Start putting something on paper! Even if it is just the outline storyline or a character profile.
I read books about "How to write fiction" etc to make sure I understood the process. Some people can start at page 1 and just write till they finish, but I knew my head was so full of ideas, that I needed a process to work through to keep me on track. I followed and then adapted the process I found to suit me.
Finally, do not under-estimate the time the review process starts AND realise it is not nearly as much fun as the writing.
But it is just as important, if not more so in some respects. Decide if you want to pay someone to professionally edit/review or if you do it yourself (but make sure you ask some close [and 'honest'] friends for help), then plan your formatting, grammar and story-line edits. I was a bit haphazard first time out and this is where I know I can do better next time.
Pete Davies Book 2!
The first page is at the end of The Mallorcan Bookseller as a taster and it's been very humbling to get so many people ask when Book 2 will be available. I'm just finalising the research on a few things and hope to start writing in just a few days time :0)
It's another 3R adventure, with the same main characters and it starts once again in Mallorca, but there could be some new island locations!
I'm aiming for a mid year (2021) release, just as people may be in a position to start going away for a holiday once again (fingers crossed).
Pete Davies Good question! It's almost a sense of needing to get an idea down on to paper. Like many writers, I can think my ideas won't interest anybody or I'm not good enough compared to the writers who sell millions, but and it's a big but, I really do go with the idea that we all have a story within us - so I just took the decision one day to get it down on paper :0)
Pete Davies The primary issue within the plot is an IT scam and I had been reading about how many vulnerable people were becoming victims of this horrible crime. After I read about some of the people on-line who are 'fighting back', I started to work on the story-line. A lot of the thinking took place whilst on holiday in Mallorca in late 2019........hence the book location :0)
