Goodreads asked Pete Davies:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Pete Davies Start putting something on paper! Even if it is just the outline storyline or a character profile.
I read books about "How to write fiction" etc to make sure I understood the process. Some people can start at page 1 and just write till they finish, but I knew my head was so full of ideas, that I needed a process to work through to keep me on track. I followed and then adapted the process I found to suit me.
Finally, do not under-estimate the time the review process starts AND realise it is not nearly as much fun as the writing.
But it is just as important, if not more so in some respects. Decide if you want to pay someone to professionally edit/review or if you do it yourself (but make sure you ask some close [and 'honest'] friends for help), then plan your formatting, grammar and story-line edits. I was a bit haphazard first time out and this is where I know I can do better next time.
