S.D. Turner I wouldn't say I really suffer from writer's block, insomuch as I have a habit, much like Hemingway, to edit, edit, edit, until I have completely re-written the book three darn times. :-)
S.D. Turner It was an ominous, dreary night as he shook the cold rain from his coat and entered the room. Suddenly, he was drenched in the blood of his victims, having bludgeoned them mercilessly. -the end!
S.D. Turner I'm currently writing an historical narrative fiction novel. It was (partly) inspired by an ex-neighbor of mine that was born in 1899. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1914 (underage) to serve in WWI. He was discovered a year later after fighting on the high seas. He was given a bar to re-enlistment until his nineteenth birthday, where he promptly re-enlisted [back] into the navy. Before he retired, he also served in WWII. He was quite an interesting and wise gentleman. More to come in the near future!
S.D. Turner Bringing laughter and joy to readers. When a reader, veteran, soldier, anyone writes to me and thanks me for making them remember and laugh-out-loud about a situation they, too experienced... there is no greater gift to me as an author.
S.D. Turner Don't write for publication... write for the love of writing. Start with a subject that you're comfortable with and then expand into the unknown. Research, write, edit. Then repeat... repeat... repeat! Never get discouraged by what others think, because not everyone may like your style... write to please you.
S.D. Turner It [A Soldier's Tale] started as a collection of stories, written mainly for posterity; children, grand-children, future family members. It somehow turned into a book as I kept plugging away at the stories I lived, with my closest brothers-in-arms. The laughter, the remembering, the good ole days kept pushing me into publication, as well as family and friends.
S.D. Turner I'm inspired by the world around me; the people, the sights, the sounds, the hidden stories that others may not notice. It can also be a movie, a feeling I may have about a particular subject.
