Katherine Robinson I take a long walk, usually along the paths I am most accustomed to taking. My feet feel the familiar rhythm, freeing up my mind to begin working around a problem without me having to worry about getting lost. I've found doing something physical—if not a walk, then stretching or gardening or the like—helps me get out of a mental block and back into writing. If I keep feeling stuck, I write on pen and paper instead of on my laptop, or I type out a placeholder until I can get writing again (and I usually think of one of my favorite movie lines from Finding Forrester—"punch the keys!").
Katherine Robinson My advice would be to keep writing—practice will help you develop your style, find your voice, and grow your story as you go along. If an idea doesn't pan out, don't worry! You can change it, go back to it, or it may even lead to a different story you never expected.
