Just write! Write lots. Write one scene, or one dialogue, or one chapter and build around that. Try not to listen to self doubt. I put it off far too long. I have wanted to write fiction since I left school and have never been brave enough before.

A second novel based around one of the major characters from 'The Healing' - not really a sequel, more a pre-quel, but definitely connected. It is taking me longer than the first to write, but I am liking how it is coming together. I have also written a novella that is also connected to the first novel, and will hopefully be publishing that soon. It is called 'The Beloved'.

Three things - a long hidden dream to write a whole novel, time on my hands due to Covid Lockdown, and my daughter's advice. Just write... she told me. Start with a scene you can imagine really well and write that. I had had the idea for the story for almost a year before I was brave enough to start writing it down. Starting at the beginning was a barrier. Once I did as my daughter said, the rest of the story just flowed.

The inspiration came whilst I was sitting alone in a ruined abbey, thinking about the many men who had lived in that place over the years, and how many of them must have come to find healing of soul, or to seek peace and a genuinely deeper relationship with God. I could feel the peace of the place, and appreciate the beauty of it's surroundings. The outline of the story downloaded as I sat there and I believe it came from God himself.
