My advice is to be patient, and allow yourself breaks and time to get through. But in all honesty? I struggle to follow this advice. I am too hard on myself and try to force writing that's just not coming. I'm getting better though, understanding that it's ok to take breaks and allow your brain time to get back into writing space.

Fail. Early and often. Write shit, and know it's going to be shit, and allow it to be shit : ) My book coming out this fall is actually the fourth book I've written; the first three will never see the light of day. They were practice, and fully exemplified the "shitty first drafts" that Anne Lamott recommends. It's uncomfortable to allow yourself to not be perfect. But it may be necessary!
