Ivor Baddiel My brother is a comedian (and a writer as well) and when he was first starting, I used to go and watch him perform a lot. I loved the comedy world, but realised that I'm not really a performer myself, so thought I'd have a go at the writing side of it. Thankfully, people occasionally laughed at some of the jokes I'd written, so gradually I became more confident in my ability to write full time.
Ivor Baddiel I'm lucky enough to do quite a lot of writing for television, mainly light entertainment and comedy, and my most recent book, Britain's Biggest Star...Is Dad? is set behind the scenes of a TV talent show, so, as that is a world I know well, it seemed the perfect setting for a story.
Ivor Baddiel This may sound ridiculously obvious, but when I'm stuck, I make a point of telling myself that no one is watching, that it doesn't matter what I write, I can write any old rubbish and then, if needs be, hit the delete button and no one, other than myself, will ever have seen it...and often when I do that, I do hit the delete button, but sometimes there is a line, a word, a phrase that isn't too bad and I'm unstuck and off again.
