Take a break and do something completely different. Or meditate - really allow yourself some time out. Ideas come in 'the gap' between thoughts. But there's a difference between writer's block, and writer's constipation - when the ideas are there but they're not flowing. That's when you have to sit and push them out!

To read as much as they can of the genres they enjoy. To write ideas down as they come along and really spend some time thinking things through. Then I'd advise filling in the gaps - taking courses where they're needed; joining a creative writing club so work gets critiqued and you're not wasting too much time on ideas that aren't going to be productive.

I have ideas circulating. They're humorous as always but nothing has landed yet. I'm still in the process of promoting the first book so that's taking up my time right now.

Humour inspires me. I see something funny, or think of a one-liner and I want to get it down on paper. Poverty is another good driving force. I've had genuine appallingly difficult times, and the need to get work finished and out so it can hopefully make some money, is a strong driver. I've written thousands of articles for magazines and website, on subjects I've hated along the way. Blogs on tarmac and conveyor belts spring to mind!

As a celebrant, incredible, funny, moving and bizarre things happen every day at work - it's an industry standard expression that 'someone should write a book'. The idea was at the back of my mind for years, so I began recording things in a notebook (menopause is not conducive to recalling everything). And eventually, I thought 'I have to do this'. It took another few years and lots of self-doubt but I got there!
