Falon Ballard Honestly, I know this is the most annoying advice, but you have to keep writing. Most of us who are published didn't get a book deal with the first book we ever wrote (my debut is my fifth full length novel). The best way to become a better writer is by writing and reading. Find good beta readers and critique partners, read books in your genre, and just keep writing!
Falon Ballard I am currently working on my second book, which I can't say too much about yet, other than it's about a woman who is a serial monogamist and what happens when she decides to explore being single, just as her high school sweetheart arrives in town.
Falon Ballard So this is multi layer answer! On the surface, the book was inspired by a tweet (suggesting it would be fun to read about a mistaken app meet cute) and a line from Sex and the City (“In New York you’re always looking for a job, apartment or a boyfriend”). But it was also inspired by my deep and abiding love for New York. 2020 was the first year I didn’t get to visit NY in a long time so writing this book was like taking my yearly vacation!
