For me because I write in the field of self-help and personal development, the best thing about being a writer is knowing that my book has the potential to help someone. I started this journey because I lost my brother to suicide, so if this book is able to help one person feel less shit and start living a more fulfilling life, then that is enough for me.
Also the next best thing, is knowing that I have actually completed a life long dream of writing a book and stayed consistent in delivering it.

Three things:
1. If you fail to prepare, then be prepared to fail - make sure you prepare when writing your book, so that you don't get distracted or thrown off.
2. If you don't sacrifice for what you want, what you want becomes the sacrifice - whilst I was writing the book the weather was beautiful outside and all my friends were out enjoying the weather and the lockdown restrictions lifting, but I sacrificed that so I could complete my book. So if you want to write your book, then you need to make it a priority and look at what sacrifices you will make to achieve your dream of writing the book.
3. Have an accountability partner - having someone to hold you to account, will help keep you on track. Writing can often be a lonely process and when you are working for yourself, it can be harder to motivate yourself and you put things off till tomorrow which ends up never coming. By having that accountability partner they will hold you to account and ensure that you stay on the path to complete your book.

Having just finished my debut release The Shitty Committee, I am taking a moment to focus on the marketing and promotion of the book, but I do have another 3 books in my mind to map out, as well as a complementary course that I want to design to support the books release, for those readers who want to take the next step to a more fulfilling life.

I get inspired to write, but first and foremost creating a space in my study that is free from all distractions.
I've created a framework that works for me, by putting on a board all I need to do for my book that day or week and then I pin to the wall along with the timeframes within which to do it, and then give myself strict deadlines to stay focused during those periods.
I also ensure that I have all the resources I need with me (references, material etc) so that I don't have an excuse to get out of my hyper focus mode.

I got the idea for 'The Shitty Committee' one day whilst sitting in an AA meeting whilst early on in my recovery from alcohol addiction when someone shared the term.
I had been wanting to write a book on how to help others stop feeling like shit and start living a more fulfilling life for a while, given all my training in this area and when I heard a fellow AA member say the term, it started my journey to write this book.
