Hire an editor -- the tougher, the better. My editor (Mary Kole of Good Story Company) is brilliant, and she doesn't mince words. She's made me cry more times than I care to admit, but she's always been right, and she's pushed me again and again to write better.

I get a lot of fresh air and exercise, which helps me stay grounded and focused. Also, I'm a glutton for punishment. What I mean is that writing is demanding and solitary, and it's never easy, so I wouldn't say I'm "inspired" -- it's more like I'm hell-bent on finishing what I start.

I take a walk or I meditate using my Calm app. Sometimes I even drink a huge glass of water or brush my teeth. All these things help reset my brain when I can't think clearly.
