My most recent book, Marvelous Margot Makes Art (to be released October 8!) was inspired by a conversation I had with my then 6-year old granddaughter. We were piled up in a kingsize bed with papers and scissors and markers and crayons and glue spilled out all around us, and she told me that she wanted to "do art BIG!" I pursued that line of thought...doing art BIG!...and this rhyming story came into being!

I seldom experience writer's block....all I have to do is put my work away for a couple of days, let it get cold, and when I come back to it, voila! The next word is already there for me!

Thinking about, talking about, working with books! Learning something new everyday about books! For instance, I didn't know until yesterday that most big bookstores will NOT purchase a book for resale unless it has a dust jacket! I personally remove all dust jackets the minute I get the book home, but if you want your book in a bookstore, put a dust jacket on it!

A companion book, Listening Lucas Listens to Letters. Lucas "collects" all the letters of the alphabet as he imagines all the words in which the letters are featured....astronaut, caterpillar, royal and vote! Lucas also uses his words for simple basic ideas that grow into big concepts:

I sit on my back porch and watch the trees sway in the breeze, feel the sun on my face, and listen to the birds! I can usually get up and walk straight to my computer for the day!
