Abigail C. Edwards Take a break. Be easy on yourself. Watch some movies, read some books, go on a walk or listen to some new music; inspiration will strike. Distance and distraction help get the juices flowing again.
Abigail C. Edwards READ! Read books you wouldn't normally read! Read books that have gotten bad reviews! Read books that intimidate you! It all rubs off: how to structure sentences, fancy new words, dialogue patterns, descriptions, things you *don't* want to do with your own book, character flaws, body language. Read, and then practice writing every chance you get. (You *will* get better! And you'll notice it!)

Abigail C. Edwards I grew up hearing stories about my mom's family and their Sicilian mafia/New Orleans mob associations. I've been wanting to write a YA mafia book since forever (there aren't many out there!), and my experience as an artisan baker + my food science background + my newfound obsession with olive oil kind of all spiraled into me writing the book I desperately wanted to read: a book about a mafia family running a bakery and trafficking olive oil into the country.
