From the worst job I'd ever had! I spent just under a year in an awful, toxic work environment. I used many of my experiences there as the foundation for Summer of Georgie, and it was cathartic for me not only to write about it but also turn it into something humorous. Now I can look back on that time and think "well, I got my first novel out of it!"

I'm working on a new women's fiction novel about friendship; it's about two women who have been lifelong friends, and after an event that splits the two of them apart, my protagonist (who very much sees herself as the victim in this event) slowly starts to discover that she herself hasn't been the friend that she thought she was.

Find a writers group! I would not have finished my first novel if my dad (yep, my dad!) hadn't invited me into his writing group. With a full-time job and two children, finding the time to write was a challenge. Knowing that I had to had a certain amount of pages ready for my group by a certain date was essential for me in making the time to write.

When I can't find the words, often I'll just pause and envision the scene. Where does it take place? What does the room look like? If it's outside, what's the weather. Then I start describing the surroundings; I may end up deleting most of it, but it usually removes whatever obstacle is preventing me from moving my story forward.
