How do you deal with writer’s block?
Brian Rosten I know that I can delete the shitty draft later.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Brian Rosten Writing is therapy, even if you don't journal.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Brian Rosten I think that for the most part, if you write for long enough, and take feedback, you will eventually find someone who enjoys your writing style. There are too many literate people in the world for it not to occur.

What are you currently working on?
Brian Rosten Right now, I'm shopping around short story about a sub that picks up some very strange cargo, and I'm hopeful it will pique some magazine's more eclectic interest. I'm also drafting a story about androids that play football.

How do you get inspired to write?
Brian Rosten I'm with Stephen King on this one- sometimes inspiration doesn't happen and you got have to write even when you're not in the mood. I write at 5am every morning before my kids wake up. I am not inspired at this time. I'm tired as hell. But I write anyway, because by the time I get to 5:45am I am ready to tackle the day because my characters woke me up.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Brian Rosten "Pete vs the City of Chicago" started out as a flash fiction based on a real experience I had getting bullied as a teenager. When I finished, I realized it needed to be fleshed out. Thus, Pete Martinen was born.

Can you tell us a two-sentence horror story?
Brian Rosten He heard the patter of something scuttling across the hardwood behind him. He looked around to find the toddler had indeed removed their diaper.

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?
Brian Rosten Middle Earth is the obvious answer, in which I would find the in at Bree and make sure I do some networking with Tom the Barman. He seems like an important man to know. And if I see Tom Bombadil on the way, well, I'll be quite the merry fellow.

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?
Brian Rosten Every few months there's some tupperware in our fridge and I feel like we'd need a gas chromatograph to figure out what's in there. But that would be more of a chemistry textbook kind of plot.
