When Mark and Celine’s voices harmonized just so, even Tim and Rodge—the drunks in the back—felt the shift in the air and paused mid-sip to recall other nights by a distant fire, oily tears pooling in their rheumy eyes. Tim and Rodge’s shallow joy ran dark with the blood of those whose memories they washed down with another round, this and every night.

I'm off to the Shire! When I arrive, I'll have second breakfast on the patio before tending the garden. Evening by the fire with friends and drinks will round off the day before tucking in.

I don't have a summer (or winter) reading list, so I'll be reading whatever my book group is offering, along with some of the things on my Kindle. Like Where The Crawdads Sing, The Lincoln Highway, Oh, William!, and some of the novels of my Sisters in Crime Canada West colleagues.

I don't really have a big mystery in my life, but if I were to zoom out, I've had lots of interesting experiences and known some very colorful characters that could populate novels for decades to come.

Sorry, but I don't think that's a thing. I have a background in journalism, and I'm an attorney. There's no such thing as writer's block when you have a print deadline or a court deadline, so I'm fortunate in that I adopted writing as a work discipline by age 22. If you have trouble with writer's block, put your butt in the chair and write ANYTHING until it passes.

1. WRITE! Like learning to play piano or speak Spanish, you have to practice.
2. Find critique partners who are better writers than you. You'll learn more from a tight group of critique partners than you'll ever learn in a classroom or from a book.
3. Attend writing conferences and soak it all up like a sponge. Mingle, meet people, and pitch your work.

I'm working on Book 2 in the Camelia Belmont Mystery series: Death At The Crossroads. Camelia finds herself in a difficult, serious situation with the client she never wanted: Suzanne Anders. Stay tuned, as it will be out later this year!

My best source of inspiration is getting outdoors and walking / hiking / trekking in nature.

Great question! I think I'm like a lot of authors who maybe hear of something or experience something in our own lives and our imagination takes off with that never-ending question: what if? What if x happened, and then y happened, and then ... So, like all of my short stories and novel premises, the concept for this novel was a "what if" moment.
