Buried to his neck, snake-like creatures, with tiny human heads and mouths distorted wide in silent screams, slithered closer. Almost upon him, his shrieks of terror heightened—becoming muffled and then altogether silenced, as one by one, the creatures slipped deep into his throat.

At the height of the pandemic, I pondered and subsequently worried about my husband becoming sick—and losing him. This thought overwhelmed me, and I wondered how I could live my life without him. My current WIP is created from these musings.

For me, I'm inspired by real people who overcome tragedy by looking at the roots of their suffering... to learn and to grow... and to live their best life despite, if not because of, the challenges they've faced. Write. Just write. Worry about editing later. Write the story first. And have fun. After you’ve written the story you want to tell, you'll have plenty of time to work on that first draft. Use patience. Make every word count. And believe in yourself. You've got this!

Writing is a remarkable creative outlet. Venturing inward to the world of my imagination and finding the words to describe it is an extraordinary experience. A story can be whatever I want it to be. I've also heard that using a writing prompt, something different from the story you're working on, can get the writing juices flowing.
Patience and a little self-compassion go a long way.
