Freya O’Brien To go for it! Write your heart out, and share your story with the world. You can self-publish and/or share your work on social media, and go from there.

But, my biggest piece of advice is to write for you and only you. Stay grounded in your intentions, and don’t get too absorbed in the numbers - i.e. book sales or reviews.
Freya O’Brien Writing is a huge outlet for me. In the midst of intense emotions and jumbled thoughts, I can pick up a pen and start scribbling everything down. When I stop, I feel lighter and more understood.
Every time my pen scrawls across the page, I felt like I come to life inside - writing gives me energy.
Freya O’Brien I never force myself to write! I view writers block as my brain signalling that I need a break. So, I allow myself one. I put my pen down and take time off. I go for walks in nature, I see loved ones and / or try something new. When I feel inspired and like the words are itching to be on the paper, only then do I start writing again. I then usually have a surge of ideas!
Freya O’Brien I am currently planning out another poetry book, which will be a different tone to my previous work. I will share updates along the way.
Freya O’Brien I draw my inspiration from my daily life, thoughts and emotions. I usually get my ideas from memories, conversations with friends and the events of the day .

If I am struggling to write, I set my pen down and have a break. I find that if I have writers block, going for a walk in nature or a change of scenery really helps. But, I never force myself to write, I don’t think that’s a healthy thing to do. I only do it when I feel like I want to, and have something to say.

Freya O’Brien My most recent book ‘Lonely Lines’ is a collection of poetry, prose and illustrations which takes the reader on a raw and honest journey through my life, and the trauma I have been through. I explore what it's like to experience and heal from trauma, poor mental health, and brokenness. I decided to share my story so others who have been through something similar can feel less alone in their experiences and pain. I chose the poetry format because I find it easier to express complex emotions and thoughts in this way.
