N. Ford The best part of being a writer is eliciting emotions, thoughts, and sentiments from readers. Each person seems to experience projects in a different way, allowing the combination of the project and the person to have a unique experience while somehow remaining in the same story. It's a magical thing.
N. Ford Very simply - God gave it to me.
N. Ford Striving after a story can be discouraging. I would encourage aspiring writers to be willing to wait to be inspired instead of trying to force it or come up with some awe-inspiring story that's unique and witty and in front of the trends. That's a gerbil wheel no one wants to experience. Be willing to wait for the story to come to you, and then listen well.

I recently heard a song writer say writers need to rely on discipline instead of inspiration. Though seemingly contradictory to the statement above, this is sound advice that I hope to be able to adopt. If we can develop the discipline of writing every day, regardless of our moods, we will end up with a product every day, good writing every now and again, and great writing on the magical days for which we all hope. I am working toward this, though much behind.
N. Ford Do something else. I will go see people, hike, swim, pick up a guitar, go kayaking, stand up paddle board, run - anything but write or read. A change in environment and a change in activity can usually clear up the fog for me.
N. Ford Book Two of The Refuge Trilogy: Refuge Red
N. Ford Finally arrive at a proper tea shop. All they have is EARL GREY.
N. Ford No reading, all writing. I can't read and write at the same time. I'm afraid whatever I read will influence my writing. When I finish the trilogy, next in line to read are: Harry Potter (no, I haven't read them or watched them!), Secrets of a Secret Place, Rich Man Poor Man, Crime and Punishment, and Tale of Two Cities
