Sheena Billett Often by just watching people and overhearing snippets of conversation. My hairdresser and I are discussing a book set in a salon, where there are endless possibilities for stories and high drama!
Sheena Billett I'm currently working on From Manchester to the Artic which is set in 1970s Arctic Canada. A young, newly qualified nurse recklessly answers an advert in the Manchester Evening News: Wanted, a nurse with a sense of adventure.
Connie enters a world unlike anything she could have imagined and has to grow up very quickly. Although it is a work of fiction, the book describes a way of life that no longer exists, and is based on my wife's (she was that nurse!) experiences recorded in her journal during the two years she lived there.

Sheena Billett Just keep writing any old thing, even if it's rubbish, and eventually I get back on track. The main thing is not to stop writing, because the block will get bigger and bigger in my head. That's how it is for me...
Sheena Billett A few months ago, six hundred pounds, in fifty- pound notes, arrived anonymously in the post in a birthday card. (Two months later we found out that a friend had put the money in by mistake - and we gave it back!) It did cause quite a bit of stress though.
