Prior to writing my book, I had spent my entire career in the corporate world. I did a lot of business writing, which was clear, concise and factual. In writing my memoir, I had to learn to pivot in order to make scenes come alive. I had to learn to "show more, tell less". Working with my developmental editor helped me enormously.

I get up, go for a walk and rest my mind...but the most effective activity for me is to go to the gym and get on the treadmill for 45 minutes: I put my headphones on, listen to music, and my mind refreshes, ready to return to my writing when I get home.

As more and more parents, as well as some educators and employers, have reached out to me over the years as a mental health governance expert, advocate and parent, I decided that it would be wonderful to pay it forward and tell our family's story holding nothing back while also providing key insights to give hope and messages of resilience and perseverance.

Having spent the last 35 years raising two children with multiple, complex mental health disorders, I have learned invaluable life lessons. These life lessons have propelled and inspired me to help others in similar situations so that they can optimize their own lives, as well as the lives of their children. My kids are my inspiration, and my book is my love song to them.
