Andrew Ward The people I've advised over the years inspired me to start my first book project. A few told me I should write a book, so I did!

I started my first book five years before it was complete, doing a little bit here and there over Christmas and holiday periods. About three years in, I hit 35k words and thought, "hey, this is nearly a book; I'd better finish this!". The final 18-24 months were where I put most of the work in, and it saw the manuscript grow from 35k to 105k words (115k if you include the extensive end notes).
Andrew Ward Weirdly I've not experienced writer's block. I run a business, so my biggest barrier to completing the book is finding the time to work on it. I had a very clear plan of what I wanted to write, and each chapter came from activities I do every day.
Andrew Ward I've run a tech business for over a decade, so I've been fortunate to speak with hundreds (maybe thousands) of people with ideas for tech projects. Every customer I speak with has a gap in their knowledge somewhere. For some, it's how to plan what they want; for others, it's how to market it.

I took every area where I've seen a gap, created a chapter, and then started writing with these customers in mind.
