D.K. Silver The time I found a naked, dead man in the gutter on my way home from graveyard shift at Union Oil Refinery––I've always been curious who he was and why he was there. It's the basis for my next series, Signal Hill. Mystery, suspense, and murder woven through the trials of half brothers from Mexico who make their way to Long Beach California in search of their fortunes and how their trajectory irrevocably alters the world of two innocent families.
D.K. Silver I don't worry about writers block. It's not that I haven't experienced it, it more that I don't see it as a hindrance. Not writing doesn't preclude living and each moment I experience adds to ME and as I am the author, the more I'm fleshed out through living life, the more I can add to my characters. So it's a win, win.
D.K. Silver The best thing about writing is creating worlds and populating those worlds with characters who are flawed and fabulous, characters who I've come to recognize as hidden dimensions of me. In a way, writing is a personal therapy session; a lot is revealed if you learn how to connect the dots between characters, their follies and hints I give about myself.
D.K. Silver Keep writing. Stop judging. Put words down and enjoy what you're doing. If it's a forced march, it's not going to be sustainable.
D.K. Silver I am currently editing Book 3, Cutting Stems while writing the screenplay for another series I've written called Signal Hill.
D.K. Silver Inspiration hits as soon as I open my computer and read where I left off. I love the depths of my characters and when I'm writing, not honoring their voice or feelings, I end up quite frustrated because the words don't come. They only come when my characters feed them to me. I've tried to pull them in a particular directions but if they don't like it, if it's not their truth, the page stays blank and I sit, waiting to get out of my own way so they can speak. I've learned, I cannot force them.
D.K. Silver The idea for The Weight Of Flowers came to me while I slept––I had the most incredible and vivid dream that kept playing in my minds eye as I drove my kids home from a ski trip the following morning. I couldn't shake it, so I embraced it and started writing. 3 months later I had written over 340,000 words which is now 4 books in The Flower series...with a 5th waiting in the wings.
