A lone figure stood at the window, watching the storm rage outside. A single, haunting croak echoed through the night, followed by the rhythmic tapping of a beak against the glass.

That's a truly interesting question. As a former criminalist, there are probably several but few that I can discuss. The largest mystery in my life came from the train accident I detail in my book, "Choices and Illusions." How did I escape and end up standing in a field a 100 yards away from the crushed car? The women in the car that I was driving had her hand on my knee when the train moving more than 100 mph collided with my stalled car. She had to be cut out of the car. The driver's side, where I was sitting, was dragged under the cattle guard and thrown from the tracks. I should have been killed but somehow through some unknown means was virtually removed from the car. How?

Ozzie and Harriet Nelson must be my favorite couple. They were perfect parents in their imperfect way. The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet featured the real life Nelson family, including their sons David and Ricky. Ricky Nelson first debut his performing genius in this series as a teen at the age of 17. Ozzie and Harriet were real life parents dealing with real life problems, always up, always finding wonderful solutions, and always family.

I may be lucky, but more ideas come to me than I am able to write. For me, inspiration is all about an idea. A strong idea must be expressed so I am always writing. Sometimes it's for my radio show, or my blog, or a feature article, perhaps even a journal article--but I'm always writing.

The easy part of being an author is writing the book. Today I am focused on selling my latest work, "Gotcha: The Subordination of Free Will." The hard part of being an author really comes when it's time to get your work out there and discovered.

Never give up. There was a time that my studio wall was covered with rejection slips. The heading above the wall said this: So You Want To Be A Writer??? When I sold my first piece, I was over the top about it. However, that one acceptance letter paled against a back wall of rejections. Still, I didn't quit. So once again, never give up! If nothing else, write for your own pleasure and keep submitting.

Start writing. Write about anything. Relax and have fun with the writing. Sometimes I may write absurd ideas down and work at playing with them. It takes only a short period before I have exhausted my silliness and want to continue with whatever work I am developing.

The pure creative aspect. Often the material flows off the ends of my fingers expressing thoughts and ideas I am unaware of ever having before that moment. I believe every one of us has the ability to tap into something special when we allow our creative forces to create--free of the usual monitored censoring.

Years of research have demonstrated to me over and over again how little many people are aware of when it comes to the manipulation techniques they are exposed to on a 24/7 basis. What's more, a surprising number of folks accept that it happens but could care less about it. To me, a 'gotcha' comes when you do what you think is best because they have taught you to think that way--so it obviously does matter!
