Read as much as you can in the genre you want to write in. I love romance books and as it's what I write, I spend most of my spare time reading romance novels.
Research the marketing aspects of being an author too, there is so much you don't realize you need to do when starting a self-publishing author journey. I've learned a lot in the last three or four months but am still coming across new bumps in the road.
There is a wealth of knowledge out there and a whole host of amazing people willing to offer guidance and support if you take the time to really look.
