Rikki Orgullo Well, I am answering this in late December 2022, so my new year list has a lot of indie novels in that I want to be able to read one per month.
Rikki Orgullo Easy. Rick Rhodian's Gods of Olympus. I would want to fight Zeus and the rest of the gods. We all know why.
Rikki Orgullo Did you see that girl in the window? The one with her head missing.
Rikki Orgullo I literally do more research or work through it. If I can't write, I'll go and look up what I'm struggle with. Let's say it's writing a scene about dialogue between and father and son, YouTube and Netflix is helpful in seeing that happen. Or reading a book chapter that you know had that similar issue and reading how that author navigated it.

Sometimes I literally write what I am thinking. Even if I'm thinking. "Crap I got nothing. Why can't I write this out. What is so hard about this." I'll write just that until I work it out eventually. Be advised, when I do this, I get three paragraphs in before anything of relevance for the novel happens and I have to delete all that.
Rikki Orgullo You get to play the what-if game. What-if Jason Vorhees was sent to a fantasy world of Orc's and Wizards? What-if Cinderella was a manipulative psychopath and was playing everyone in the shadows? Being able to use your imagination to be creative as an adult I think is the best part.
Rikki Orgullo Research. I mean it. Research your target audience. Research and review prior works in that genre. Research book covers within the genre. Research will be a lot of work, but will save you a good amount of time down the road.
Rikki Orgullo Oh I love this question! Currently I am working on a YA slasher thriller about a group of soon to be freshman going to a writing seminar for aspiring creators. I am having a lot of fun rewatching Slasher flicks for research and thinking about the different ways a killer can hide in plain sight while they watch their bloody goal be fulfilled.
Rikki Orgullo That’s a loaded question. I would have to say it’s the media that I surround myself with. Life in general can be used to inspire others for fiction, while sometimes rewatching old 80’s horror movies make you start thinking about what ifs that just spiral into their own stories. What you intake from reading, watching, and experiencing shapes your inspiration. Or at the very least, it does for me.
Rikki Orgullo Interesting question, I would have to say the mystery of how a city kid from Philadelphia found himself living in a creepy old house in the Midwest.
Rikki Orgullo My partner’s trauma from past relationships and family figures. I have their permission of course to write about it.
