I'm writing a book about vampires in Amsterdam. I lived in Amsterdam for twenty years (I never saw a vampire) but was obsessed with the history of Amsterdam and its influence on the modern world. Check out the books by Russell Shorto or Jan Mak.
I was looking out over the river Ij that flows through Amsterdam, and I was wondering - what if I had bought shares in the ships leaving for Indonesia back in the 1600s, with the knowledge that I have now of those that were successful and took out insurance on those that were not? What would it be like to travel through time like that?
