There's no way one person can know the experience of another. We all live in our own unique universes. But through art, whether it's painting, film or writing, we artists can give others a peek into our minds, just as we can see into the minds of others through their works. I just realized that yesterday, in fact so I'm happy to be able to give you a peek into that moment from my perspective!

I started a manuscript a few years ago that I just picked up again. I had about 125 pages written and professionally edited. But there was something that didn't quite gel with the book so I shelved it. I'm on a pretty good roll right now after finishing How to Gain Nothing from Buddhist Practice in less than a year. The day that manuscript was completed, I pulled up the document for Integral Yoga for Recovery and started rethinking it. After a week or so of staring at it, I had an epiphany and figured out how to organize the material. In short, it will revolutionize recovery - if people accept it and work with it. My last book wasn't specific about recovery, though it was influenced by my experiences. This one is 100%, full on how to recover - from all attachment. I'm really excited about it and plan to offer trainings if it takes off. If not, at least my thoughts will be out there!

By living my life head on. I don't dodge too many bullets, and they just keep coming. Because my karma is what it is, I'm forced to practice Dharma and recovery principles to stay afloat. Those challenges and triumphs become material that I write about to help others.

Put words on paper. Get ideas down. Let it flow and worry about the perfection of it later. I found that working with Julia Cameron's Artist's Way practices, such as morning pages, really helped. But there's no way to do it but through it.

After my first book I wanted to learn how to make the Dharma teachings more accessible to a wider audience without losing any of the potency of the teachings. I had this in mind for a few years while teaching yoga as I infused some ideas from Buddhism into the Vinyasa practice. I recorded the meditations that I did before yoga classes for a year or so and had them transcribed. Those became the basis of a longer talk which then became the basis for the book. I found that the talk was spontaneous and that many of the topics needed background, introduction, explanation and applied practices to deepen. So that became the book!
