Are any aspects of your latest book, Golden State, autobiographical? Since it is set in Berkeley where you went to college, was it just a familiar geographical setting or was there more that was taken from your own life? PS - I loved the book and in my 5 star Goodreads review described it as an exciting read, a deeply moving character study, and a thought provoking discussion about modern society.

Stephanie Kegan First, thank you for your kind words and wonderful review of Golden State! My novel isn't autobiographical, but I drew from elements of my own experience. I did attend UC Berkeley at a time when there was hardly any tuition and I really did know a guy--and many others in similar financial circumstances--who arrived at Berkeley on a Greyhound bus with a bicycle and thirty dollars in his pocket. And I certainly feel bad that kids today have a much rougher time being able to afford to go there. Thank you for asking!
