Craig Tomashoff Well, Scotch certainly helps! And distractions ranging from binge-watching on Netflix to walking my dog. The point is, just stop thinking about writing and then you can write. We build the task up as something scary and imposing when, as earlier stated, it's as simple as observing your life and capturing what you experience in words. So when I'm stuck, I distract myself and THEN just sit, spit out whatever is floating in my brain (without judgement on quality) and then read whatever I'd written. Then, you're an editor, not a writer for a while and things start to flow.
Craig Tomashoff As mentioned earlier, I can't remember a time when I didn't write. So to me, writing is just life. It's my way of taking what I experience and making sense of it. I think that's what all writers do, and I can't imagine existing any other way.
Craig Tomashoff My advice is simple: write. I realize how trite that sounds, but the world is happening around you at all times. You are experiencing topics to write about all the time. You have material, so there's no worry there. And if you simply sit down and describe what you see and hear on the paper/screen, that's writing. As you do it, I also suggest not going back to reread until you've finished whatever your'e doing. Trust your instincts.
Craig Tomashoff As any independent author can attest, we're always working on selling the book we've written. It's a 24/7/365 task, and much more grueling than actually writing a book. As for my next writing project, I have a few ideas that all center around the theme of how people who consider themselves outsiders still find ways to keep happy and connected.
Craig Tomashoff The truth is, I wake up inspired to write and go to bed inspired to write. I see no separation between living and writing. For better or worse, putting words to paper/screen is my way of processing whatever I see happening in the world.
Craig Tomashoff We all have impossible dreams, and few are more impossible than running for president. So I wanted to explore the people who decide they want to do something that will have everyone thinking their nuts, cost them their savings and ultimately end in failure. And as I spoke with them, I realized how similar what they were trying was to writing a book. From there, the idea just fell together.
