“I would live in the future but find a place that was hopeful, that had distilled the best part of humanity even in a dystopian society. I would be a seamstress. I would make clothes and tell tales.”

Isobel. That's odd. I'm sure we're friends. I will go check. I'm not a master of Facebook so I think I'll ask some friends if I can't figure it out. Eric is 100 miles into his journey. He is loving Spain so much. :)

My mother's family is a bit of a mystery. My cousin, aunt, uncle, grandmother were in Berlin while it was being bombed. No one speaks of it but through my life I have met German relatives who intrigue me. Not to mention that my mother lived in Germany as a young girl while her parents lived in the U.S. I find all this very mysterious and think their stories would make a wonderful thiller - if only they'd talk to me about it. Unfortunately, so many of them are gone now.

Nick and Nora Charles! The couple from the Thin Man Series in the 1940s. I liked that they were so obviously meant for one another and yet were independent, intelligent and funny in their own right. I hope I'm not dating myself - no I wasn't around in the 40s but close enough to be aware of those great old movies. In the '70s it was The Harts of Hart to Hart. They had the same kind of relationship as those of Nick and Nora Charles. Maybe Josie and Archer are their reincarnation :).

Joanne, good morning and than you so much for reading and reviewing Severed Relations. To answer your question, I spent twenty five years as a traditionally published author and worked very hard for publishers like Pocket Books, Harper Collins and Kensington. Unfortunately, there came a time when sales of my books weren't meeting the publisher's sales goals and I was unable to find a spot with them. When the rights to my three Witness Series books were reverted to me I found there was a core group of readers who were very loyal so I began writing as an indie. Now there are 7 of those books with over two million downloads. Severed relations is the start of a new series. I miss the traditionally published days but times change and I moved forward . I guess it's true what they say, writer write no matter what lol. I hope this wasn't too much information. Publishing is, indeed, a strange and exciting industry., isn't it? I hope you'll take a look at Foreign Relations when it comes our or maybe Hostile Witness - That's a good one because it's free :). Thanks again and hope you're staying cool. Rebecca

Isis, First, forgive me. I can't believe I haven't been here for four months. I have a good excuse. I have had my nose to the grindstone. I wrote 3 new books in the last six months and just released them yesterday. Check out The Day Bailey Devlin's Horoscope Came True. There are three in the series, but that's number 1.
Yes, there will be but not for a little bit. I can't decide where to go next :). I promise, though, Billy is okay. I wrote three new books that aren't thrillers - romantic comedy - just for the fun of it. I'm hoping that will clear my mind for Billy :).
Hope you aren't too hot where you are. Again, I apologize.

I love your series and would like to know how old this post is? I am another fan waiting on a new Witness book

Gerri, Great to meet you. This post is 5 months old! I am red-faced. I don't get to Goodreads as often as I do twitter and facebook. The books I spoke of - Bailey Devlin series - were written for my mom's 91st birthday. She wanted some books-without-bodies so it took a while to actually get them done. Still, Billy isn't 'speaking' to me. I'm dying to know what happens to everyone but leaving him in Alaska has sort of left me stumped. I know they will all come back in a rush. Right now I'm finishing up a book which introduces Finn O'Brien and Cori Anderson. It's called Severed Relations. As soon as that's published I am going to sit down and figure out where I want Josie to go. I'm open for suggestions LOL. I was thinking one book with Billy that eventually brings him back to Hermosa Beach. I'm also thinking - and I haven't even said this to anyone yet so you're the first - of letting Josie get pregnant. I think that would bring up all sorts of interesting things between her and Hannah, Archer, her own feelings about motherhood. Can you see that I haven't been able to make any choices yet :). Thanks for the note. I truly appreciate it. If you want to know when things are coming out just pop over to my website and send a contact form (with or without message) and you'll be on the mailing list. I don't send newsletters out often but they usually have release dates. Hope you're not snowed in anywhere. If you are, hope you have some good books :)

I have an unusual story in that I never wrote before I published my first book. I didn't keep journals, I didn't write poetry. I was actually dared to write a book and it was the dare that intrigued me. Little did I know that I would find my passion. Like a book, the best thing about my life has been the plot twists and becoming a writer was a major one. I always tell people to be aware when a door opens. You have the choice to walk through or not. I will be forever grateful to the friend who uttered those words, "I dare you". I feel so lucky that I had enough energy and curiosity to walk through the door she opened.

I'm working on Dark Witness. I've been humbled by the response readers have had to Josie Bates, Hannah and Archer. The Witness Series took a nontraditional turn in that I followed the characters' lives rather than creating traditional courtroom drama for each new book. So many questions have already been answered but Dark Witness is critical to how these characters will move forward - or not.

Writing isn't the battle, editing is. Be brutally honest with yourself, listen to your gut. If something needs changing, you'll know it. The trick is to do something about it. This process is exhausting and sometimes disheartening but you and your book will be the better for serious editing.

My curiosity is a plus. As a writer it's my job to observe, listen, read and learn then roll all that together and create characters and a story. People respond to my curiosity because I write; I write because I'm curious. I feel so lucky to be running this creative circle.

I 'suffer' writer's block way too often so I turn to the physical. I play competitive tennis - a great sport of strategy that makes you think - I clean the house, I garden, I sew. Anything that keeps my hands busy seems to calm my mind. I suppose it's a little bit like letting a field go fallow. My brain regenerates.

Toi, you lucky dog! That's one way to clear writers block. Have a great time. Post a picture :)

I came across a Ted talks about new advances in mind control. That led me to research on a U.S. program called MKUltra where citizens were unwittingly used in mind control experiments. It was so dramatic on so many levels - personal, political and legal - that I knew I had to explore it in Forgotten Witness.
