Journey Windrow Having done production writing, I pretty much sit in the chair and do it. I don't require inspiration to write. I write every day about something. Not writing is difficult for me.

However, there are times (like today) when I'm writing a vampire bar scene/short story and I use a specific music list to replicate my idea of what the place would be like.

If by inspiration, where the story comes from? ... I have these people living in my head.

Journey Windrow That's not something I have experience with. When I worked in news I couldn't tell the boss I wasn't feeling it. You get something off the newswire and have it revised to fit the local paper in short order or find yourself in the mail room.

Most often the problem I have is having to spent too much time on writing related issues (newsletters, etc.) If I need a new focus I write a short story. That clears out the pipes in short order.
Journey Windrow I'm finishing the second book of the Mage of Boston series. It has an entirely new mystery for Miranda to solve. From the probationary employee from hell to predatory preternaturals invading Boston, she doesn't have time to breathe. Or sleep. At this point, she's considering asking Nigel to set up an IV coffee drip.
