Rosemary Jones Being creative. I love playing with words and crafting stories.
Rosemary Jones If your aspiration is to be published, then figure out what you like to write and then find the publisher who publishes that genre. This sounds super simple, but you do have to do your research. Start in your favorite section of the library or local bookstore. What books do you automatically pull off the shelf and start reading? Turn to the copyright page and figure out who published those titles. Look up their websites and see what they say about submissions. If it is "you have to have an agent," then start looking for agents who sell to that publisher. All that information is discoverable online. Ask questions in writer conferences, hang out with other writers, and take advantage of the professional associations like SFWA or MWA. Every published writer has done this hunt toward publication, everyone has had a "first book" that they've sold, and everyone takes a slightly different route toward making that goal. But if you have found some specific publishers that you'd like to work with, you'll be well on your way.
Rosemary Jones Honestly, a contract or a job. I've always been a writer, but what motivates me from random notes and odd jottings to finished book, short story, or article is the knowledge that I have a deadline.
Rosemary Jones A collection of all my Cobalt City stories with some new adventures for my characters living in this shared world of superheroes. I was nudged into this by Jeremy Zimmerman, who also writes YA set in this city.
