Ricardo Sanchez A suburban school and neighborhood near a big city. The main character moves from the city to a smaller school.
Ricardo Sanchez Finishing a project and being told by someone that they've read your work - even if they didn't like it.
Ricardo Sanchez The idea that ultimately became Elvis Sightings was inspired by a chance meeting with a writer for the Weekly World News. The initial idea bears little resemblance to the novel, but that's where it started.
Ricardo Sanchez Writing for me is a compulsion. If I'm not writing something, I get cranky and morose. So I write. Sometimes it is utter garbage, but I write anyway.
Ricardo Sanchez A follow up novel to Elvis Sightings and a number of graphic novels.
Ricardo Sanchez Give up. Seriously. If writer weren't a compulsion for me, I would probably be a happier guy because I could spend more time watching movies or playing video games. But, if you really must write, then develop a thick skin. I sent my first novel to every agent who represented mysteries and got across the board "no thanks." But I still managed to get published anyway. That isn't to say I didn't take some, or even a lot, of their advice, but I never took criticism as a reason to give up.
Ricardo Sanchez So far, knock on wood, I've never had writer's block, but generally when ever I'm not feeling super productive on a project, I switch to something completely different for a while to refresh my creative thinking.
