I realized that I had traveled to almost 120 countries, and figured I should write down my most interesting memories of about 100 of them. I've been a travel writer for much of my long life, and I had many tales to tell and memories that I didn't want lost. I also have thousands of photos. Why shouldn't I use the best of them, as well? So 70 of my photos were illustrated by an artist who used to work at the New Yorker, to enhance the words.
