The joy of being a fiction writer is you are in control. I just let my mind wander and take control and if that doesn't work I pour myself a large vodka and tonic.

I love being a fiction writer because I am in complete control. When I was writing 'Proteus' I had a bit of writer's block. I was completely stuck for days. I kept saying to myself, 'what would happen next?' but then I had the eureka moment when I realised that it was entirely up to me. It was my book and my story and it was up to me what happened next. After that I was away and wild horses couldn't hold me back.

Go for it! But do make sure you know your subject, write about what you know, Don't guess, for the rest there is Google!

I am currently writing two books at the same time. The first one, 'Guts', is semi-autobiographical and is a fictional version of the struggles I faced with my bank and the NHS. The second is the sequel, well in fact it's a prequel to 'Proteus' and it's called 'Sparks'. It again features my police detective Tom Sparks but this time is based predominantly in Devon in Salcombe. I did not set out to write two books at the same time but the plots appeared in my head almost at the same time. It is actually proving to be rather fun.

I actually dreamt it. I woke up one day with the plot in my head and started writing. It was all rather weird really as I had ever felt the urge to write anything at all much to the annoyance of English tutor at school.
