How do you deal with writer’s block?
Judy Petsonk Go for a jog, take a shower, sing. Ask myself if I'd rather clean up my desk or write. Use prompts (Gotham Writer's Workshop has great ones, such as describing the person's hands.)

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Judy Petsonk I love to see my lousy first draft getting a bit better each time I work on it.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Judy Petsonk Consult your dreams. Read lots and listen to books on tape and people talking. Don't be intimidated by all the great writers. They've laid down the track for you to follow.

Judy Petsonk I'd rather write than clean up my desk.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Judy Petsonk I was walking down a street in Jerusalem, on vacation, when I saw a street sign that said Queen Shalom-Zion street. Since I'd never heard of any Jewish queen but Esther, I was intrigued. As a news reporter I was inspired to dig out the details: who this queen was, what she accomplished, and why history had buried her accomplishments.
