Miss Nye, my name is Robbie, my dream is become a great writer and I currently walking the road to become one, you once taught my English class at Mclaren high, and if I had known who you were at the time i would have asked many questions, but one I have two at the moment, first how did you become a successful and known writer? and what do you suggest I would do to achieve the same?
Alex Nye Hello Robbie. Sorry it took so long to answer, but couldn't find the right button till now!!! I would certainly encourage you to read as much as possible if you want to write one day. Also, keep a journal, write for pleasure, and don't ever be discouraged in spite of rejections. Good luck!!!

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Alex Nye Don't be discouraged. If you are talented, and you know that you need to write, then keep at it. Be determined.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Alex Nye Through researching material for a unit I was writing for pupils in school. The Unit was called Art in the Holocaust, and when I set the pupils a creative writing task, I did one too and it turned into a novel.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Alex Nye I take the dog for a walk.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Alex Nye Having an outlet for the creative bit that's going on inside you. Writing down your thoughts and feelings is very healthy.

What are you currently working on?
Alex Nye I'm working on a novel called The Colour of Birds set in the Holocaust, about a young girl who carries a school exercise book with her and documents what she sees in drawings and pictures.

How do you get inspired to write?
Alex Nye The author of the classic book The Silver Sword used to walk on the moors a lot, and that's where he got his ideas. I'm the same, and I'm sure other writers are too. I feel inspired when I'm walking the dog in the countryside. The trick is to have a notebook handy or to remember the ideas. I rarely feel inspired when I'm sitting staring at a piece of modern technology like a laptop. Forests of birch trees are more appealing.
