Heather Gudenkauf Thank you ~ I hope to get back to Prairie Lights one day soon! I've been reading a lot lately and a few of my favorites are:
Code Name Helene by Ariel Lawhon
The Passenger by Lisa Lutz
10% Happier by Dan Harris
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Heather Gudenkauf Writer's block is the worst! I go for long walks with my dog almost every day and this is especially helpful when I get stuck while working on a project. Being out in nature helps me focus on something else for awhile. By stepping away from the computer and letting go of whatever I'm working, I'm able to come back later with a new perspective.
Heather Gudenkauf I love so much about being a writer. I get to spend my days doing something I love - creating characters and stories that will hopefully resonate with readers. I also have the opportunity to connect with readers and other writers - there is nothing I love more than chatting with people who love reading as much as I do.
Heather Gudenkauf The best advice I can give aspiring writers is to do three things:
1. Read as much as possible.
2. Write something every day.
3. Quiet the inner critic - just write. You can always go back and revise.
Heather Gudenkauf I'm working on the revisions to an upcoming locked door thriller set during the middle of a snowstorm. It's interspersed with a true crime account of a missing teenager. I can't wait to share it with readers.
Heather Gudenkauf I love writing but at times I need a little inspiration too. For me, before I start writing for the day, I'll read some poetry - some of my favorite poets are Mary Oliver, Edna St. Vincent Millay and most recently I've discovered Ada Limón. The beautiful, lyrical language is energizing.

Heather Gudenkauf I got the idea for THIS IS HOW LIED from all the cases in the news as of late that have been reopened or solved because of advances in technology. I read I'LL BE GONE IN THE DARK by Michelle McNamara a few years ago and was absolutely fascinated by the thought of a decades old mystery being solved. From there, Eve, Maggie and Nola and their stories emerged.
